Gifted & Talented Education

Gifted and Talented Education refers to students who have been identified as being gifted, or having a high capacity for learning and abstract thinking and reasoning. All second graders in CUSD take a non-verbal test in order to be screened for GATE identification. Once children are identified as being gifted, our teachers meet their needs through differentiated classroom instruction.

In accordance with the Campbell Union School District's GATE plan, Blackford offers a curriculum that is differentiated to meet the needs of all students.  GATE students are cluster grouped  for a minimum of sixty minutes a day for Language Arts instruction.

For 150 additional minutes during the week, our GATE students participate in hands-on activities in science, delving more deeply into the content standards for the specific grade level. GATE students are invited to participate in an after school Writer's Workshop to further hone their skills.
Field trips and after school program offerings round out our services to GATE students.
