Blackford Elementary School

Campus Renovation Enters Final Stage

Blackford has undergone a lot of changes since students left in June, and more are happening daily as our construction and cleaning crews push hard to finish everything before students return.

I assure you that on August 23rd, we will welcome your child(ren) to a safe school where our teachers are excited and eager to lead them through this year of learning.

In regards to construction, great progress has been made over the summer. We also want to make you aware of a few things you may notice once you are on campus.

There will be a few fenced-off areas where the crews will be working diligently to finish our projects.  The surge in construction around the Bay Area did cause a couple of delays in our timeline, so some of the work will have to continue into the fall.

This phase of construction is the last in a multi-year, campus-wide renovation promised under voter-approved school bonds. The projects in this phase include:

  • Replacing the aging underground utilities like electrical and plumbing.

  • Re-grading the interior “core” of the school to make it wheel chair accessible

  • Installing a shade structure for the students to eat lunch under.

  • Improving the appearance and function of the site.

Over the summer, construction crews demolished an old classroom building, renovated the former library into two new classrooms, and removed the walkway canopies and the concrete paving within the central core of the school.  The walkways will be replaced with new materials and re-landscaping of the affected areas.

Our team of professional teachers and support staff are ready to welcome your child to school and begin a new year of excitinglearning on a safe school campus. When the renovation is complete, our school will be a proud jewel for the community.

We will have more information about the renovation at our Back to School Night, on September 13th.  Please plan to attend.
