You have the power to cut the power! Let’s all work together to reduce screen time! The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends:
2 or less hours of screen time each day (screen time includes: TV, video games, nonschool computer). Here are some ways you can help keep screen time down.

Toss the remote, go outside, and have fun! Be a family that plays together. Let’s all aim to include at least 1 hour of physical activity into each day! Recently the World Health Organization called physical inactivity to be among the greatest threats to health world wide. Here are some ways you can integrate 1 hour of physical activity into your day.

Calling All Kinders August 10, 2015 - 2:16pm

We would like to welcome all of our new Kinder families to Blackford.  In your welcome packet, you should have received information regarding our Kinder round-up event and Kinder orientation.

Kinder round-up is an opportunity for our kinder teachers to assess our incoming kinder studnets in order to gain an understanding of their academic ability and meet their needs in the classroom.  In the welcome packet, you received a time to bring your child in for assessment on August 12th.  If you have any questions or cannot make that time, please call (408) 978-4675.
2015-2016 Class Placements August 10, 2015 - 2:32pm

Class placements will be posted after 5:00 pm on August 18th at the front office.  In order to get your student's class placement, you must have your student ID number with you, which is located on the top right corner of the green "Personal Information" sheet included in your welcome back letter.

A limited number of free backpacks will be available for pick up in the cafeteria on Tuesday, August 18th from 11:00 am-1:00 pm.  You must be a Blackford student in order to receive a backpack.  This is on a first served basis and only one backpack will be given per student.
Back to School Night August 14, 2015 - 5:07pm

Please mark your calendars. Our Back to School Night will be held on September 2nd. This year we have the following schedule:

  • TK - 2nd grade meet and greet in your child's classroom 6:00 - 6:30 p.m.
  • School wide introductions and information in the cafeteria 6:40 p.m.
  • 3rd- 5th grade meet and greet in your child's classrom 7:00 - 7:30

Please come and join us and get to know our staff. This is also a great opportunity to meet other families and students in our Blackford community. We look forward to seeing you there!
PBIS at Blackford August 14, 2015 - 5:30pm

At Blackford, we believe in acknowledging positive behavior.  We use PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) which recognizes students for their positive behavior, in order to reduce negative behaviors.  We teach students to show RAR (Respect, Achievement, and Responsibility) throughout our campus.  Please talk with your child about what RAR means at home, as well as at school.
Drop-Off, Pick-Up Safety August 30, 2015 - 8:18am

We need your help to ensure that your child is dropped off and picked up safely.  Leigh Ave. is a very busy street and we are concerned that many people are not using the crosswalk when crossing the street.  We are asking that you drop your child off, or pick them up, in front of the school on Willow St.  If you have to drop them off or pick them up on Leigh Ave., we ask that you do that in the white parking zone or use the crosswalk.  Thank you for your help with this!
English Classes for Adults August 31, 2015 - 10:42am

We have a very exciting opportunity for our families who are wanting to learn to speak English. We will be offering English classes for adults on our campus. Registration is September 1st from 8:45 a.m. - 11:45 a.m. at Blackford. Classes begin Tuesday, September 8th and will be Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 8:45 a.m. - 11:45 a.m.. The cost for the class will be $20.00. We look forward to seeing you there.

I would like to take this time to formally welcome back to Blackford our returning families and those families that are joining us for the first year. We are so excited that you are all a part of our Blackford community.  Our dedicated staff has been preparing for a wonderful year of learning, fun, excitement, and rigourous education. This summer we have had some staff changes that I wanted to share with you.
