Thank you to all of those that came out to support our first ever Blackford Community Build Day with RAFT and Project Ember. It was a huge success with over 100 students, parents, teachers, and staff members participating in the build. Students of all ages along with their families participated in building tables, shelves, and supply walls with whiteboards. It was an incredible event and we are so thankful to all who came out to help and support. Here is a link to an article where we were featured in the Mercury news as well! Great Job Blackford Bobcats.

Please help us in reminding your students that children are not permitted to play on the playground or playstructure after school unless they are accompanied by a parent. In addition parents that are staying with your students after school please make sure to be sitting/standing near them on the playground or playstructure. We have noticed several students playing on one playground while their parents are on another. As safety is a top priority for us, we wanted to take a moment to remind you to please help us by following the above policy.

During pick up time, after school in the parking lot,  you may have noticed new signs that designate pick up times along the yellow curb. If you have a student that gets picked up at 3:00 dismissal, please do not park along the curb during the 2:50 dismissal. We have found that cars parked on the curb early for the 3:00 dismissal are making it diffucult for the traffic to continously flow for the 2:50 pick up.   We sincerely appreciate your support in helping with the flow of traffic and most importantly the safety of our students and families in the parking lot of Blackford.

Students had equal say as adults as more than 100 parents, students, staff and neighbors gave input at a March 23 community forum about creating a new Preschool–8th-grade school in the District.

The meeting began with attendees using stickers to vote on the Guiding Principals the Transformation Team will consider as it develops recommendations for the Governing Board. Then, participants and facilitators separated into affinity groups—parents with other parents, students with students, and so on—so they could discuss hopes, concerns and ideas for the new school. They consolidated their input and reported it back to the whole group. Their responses are posted on the District's Transformation web page in the March 23 meeting notes.

In April, the Transformation Team will review the responses and identify common themes to address in recommendations it sends to the Board in June.

State testing will happen from mid-April through May, and we're doing our best to ensure our students do their best.

Each year, students in grades 3–8 will participate in the statewide testing program called the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP). The tests cover English language arts/literacy (ELA) and mathematics for grades 3–8, and science fore grades 5 and 8. They provide information to teachers, parents/guardians, and students about students’ progress and readiness for college and career.

The principal will send information about specific testing dates and times at your child's school.

Meanwhile: Don't Fret. Stay Informed.

Calling all engineers! It’s not not too late to register for our Engineering classes.  Taking it to the Skies (for grades k- 2): The Junior Aerospace Engineering classes introduce our youngest engineers to fundamental concepts of aircraft and spaceship design.  Through open and focused exploration, students explore and construct airplanes, rockets, hot air balloons, and more.

Up, Up & Away (for grades 3-5): During the Aerospace Engineering classes, students use the Engineering Design Process to design, create, test, and refine a variety of flying machines.  They construct a shock absorbing system designed to protect two marshmallow astronauts in a lunar vehicle, create their own air-powered rockets, and assemble a hot air balloon model that actually takes flight!

Come and join the creativity by registering with the following link.

Hope to see you there!
