Attending school regularly helps children feel better about school and themselves.

Missing just two days a month means a child misses 10% of the school year. That's 10% less learning, smiling, growing, and achieving.

Attend Today. Achieve Tomorrow.

"Showing up” every day and on time makes a difference for students.

September is Attendance Awareness month all over the country.
Why? Studies about school attendance show that “showing up” makes a difference:
· Positive school attendance supports students’ academic and social growth.
· Attending school regularly helps students feel better about school and themselves.
· Learning good work habits early will support their success in life.
At CUSD, we value our parent and community partnerships. Positive school attendance is a joint effort of home and school.
Together, we make a difference for our students. We ask that all families join us in helping students form the good attendance habits—being present each day and on time—that will help them succeed in school and beyond.
Attend Today, Achieve Tomorrow!

A Message from Superintendent Shelly Viramontez

I am excited to announce "Profile of a Graduate," Campbell Union School District’s strategic focus for the 2018-19 school year and beyond. The video linked to this article offers more explanation.
Profile of a Graduate is part of our district’s Strategic Plan to reinvent the way we educate and inspire today's learners, and one of the four goals outlined in our Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP). It calls upon individuals—students and the adults who support them—to be Self-Directed, Innovative, a Critical Thinker, Collaborative, and Empathetic.
Developing these five competencies is our commitment to preparing ALL students for a yet-to-be-defined workplace. Their future depends on it.
As our partner and your child’s advocate, you are an important part of that mission. You will be seeing more about the Profile of a Graduate throughout the school year as we, together, continue the vital work of educating students to their highest potential.

District students compete in international coding event.

Karen, who hopes to work for NASA one day, joined dozens of middle school students who took part in the Zero Robotics International Space Station (ISS) Finals with the astronauts last Friday, August 10th. Campbell Union School District middle schoolers competed in the Zero Robotics summer program and wrote code for moving mini satellites in zero gravity.

Zero Robotics Middle School Summer Program introduces students to computer programming, robotics, and space engineering, and provides hands-on experience with programming SPHERE (Synchronized, Position, Hold, Engage, Reorient, Experimental Satellites). At the culminating event, 12 regional teams from around the globe watched live as astronauts aboard the International Space Station judged their team’s code in zero gravity.

This is the second year that Campbell Union School District summer program students have participated in Zero Robotics, thanks to the grant-funded After School Education Safety (ASES) program operated by our CUSD Extensions Department.

Campbell Union School District students were featured in a National Geographic short film about it, called Zero Gravity.

For more about Zero Robotics, visit their website.

Parking and Traffic

  • Pick-up and drop-off can be a very busy time and we ask that you please support our efforts by adhering to our safety guidelines. Your child’s safety is of utmost importance to us.
  • When dropping-off or picking-up your child, please use the appropriate lanes. In the front parking lot, the left lane is drive-through only and the right lane is for pick-up and drop off.
  • While in the right lane, please DO NOT LEAVE YOUR CAR.  Additionally, please do not let your child enter or exit your car from the left lane or have your child go through the parking lot to meet you out in front of the school.
  • Children and families need to use the crosswalk at the corner of Stokes St. and Leigh Ave. with the crossing guard if they are being dropped off across Leigh Ave. or if they are walking to school.
  • For the safety of your family and other families coming to school, DO NOT CROSS THE STREET OR PARK ILLEGALLY ON LEIGH AVE. We have asked for increased law enforcement prescence to help with this issue as we want to ensure the safety of every student.
  • Lastly, if you are parking, please make plans to come early to get a parking place either in our parking lot or in the surrounding neighborhood.  Please help us to be a good neighbor, and don’t block or park in anyone’s driveway.

  • Hot lunch is offered in the cafeteria each day.  At Blackford we have a “cashless line”.  This means that students and/or parents need to bring lunch money into the office or give it to the teacher first thing each morning. Please place the money in an envelope with your child’s name, teacher, and amount enclosed.  You can also add money to your student's lunch card online via the district website.
  • For the 2018-2019 school year, lunch will be $3.50. An application for free or reduced lunch will be included in your first day packet or you can apply online now at

 Blackford PTA

  • We would love to extend an invitation for you to join our PTA!  Involvement in your child’s school provides them with a solid sense of the value of education.  The PTA here at Blackford contributes so much to each and every child’s education and we encourage  and invite you to take an active role in this school/home partnership!

Student/Parent Handbook:

  • This handbook will be sent home on the first day of school and can be found here on our school website to reference (resources > family involvement > 2018/2019 Blackford Student Handbook). Please take time to read this with your child as it contains important information about Blackford and our expectations.

We are looking forward to an amazing year. See you soon!
