Campbell Union School District is accepting applications to fill a vacant seat on its Citizens Bond and Parcel Tax Oversight Committee.

The school district Governing Board appoints an independent citizens committee to oversee the expenditures and uses of bond and parcel tax revenues, and report findings to the public. The Citizens Oversight Committee reviews school district spending and ensures that bond and parcel tax revenues are spent only for the purpose set before the voters.

Information and applications are available on District’s Oversight Committee webpage and by contacting Christina Tran, Campbell Union School District, ctran [at] campbellusd.org or 408-364-4200 ext. 6215.

"The recent California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) scores reflect a ‘snapshot' in time of our progress towards mastering the Common Core State Standards, but they don’t tell the whole story,” said CUSD Superintendent Eric Andrew.  “We are disaggregating these results and reviewing our other assessment data to pinpoint where we need to bolster our instructional practice and ensure that all of our students succeed.”

He added that schools start this year with the newly adopted curriculum in our classrooms, 1-to-1 technology in nearly all grades, and students who are energized by the project-based learning we are able to provide through community partnerships. "We are going to leap ahead this year,” he said.

As of September 14th, the testing company is shipping the individual student reports to the district office. As soon as we receive them we will mail them to parents. More information about the State assessments and a link to the data is available on our assessment web page.

On September 8, the State Board of Education approved key elements of a new accountability system that evaluates schools and districts in 10 areas critical to student performance. Read the news release.

We know that celebrations at school can be a ton of fun. While many students do bring a treat to share with their classmates on their birthday, for class parties, etc. we wanted to make sure you are aware that we are no longer allowing cupcakes or cake at Blackford. The frosting on these items stains our materials, such as textbooks and desks, as well as makes a mess throughout the school. There are many other options such as fruit, stickers, pencils, cookies, etc. to have your child bring to school if you chose to send them with something to celebrate a special occassion. Thank you so much for helping to keep our curriculum and campus clean.

Let's Move!!! We believe that movement is not only good for our health but it is also good for our brain. Throughout this year Blackford will participate in "Workout Wednesdays." We are encouraging staff and students to wear workout clothes to school every Wednesday to promote movement and health. Students and staff will make extra attempts to get outside and purposefully move more to encourage health and wellness. While health education and movement will occur on days other than Wednesday, we wanted to have a designated day to celebrate as a school.
