Focus on Kindness

In an effort to build empathy in our students, our school is participating in a month of kindness activities.

One of our district Profile of a Graduate competencies is Empathetic.  In an effort to build empathy in our students, we began a month of focusing on kindness.  Our Month of Kindness began on Nov. 15th and will run through Dec. 17th.  The intent of this focus is to intentionally spread "Random Acts of Kindness" around our school and increase empathy.  One example of an activity we are doing is each classroom has chosen another classroom as a "secret" kindness class.  Each class is creating signs, posters, note cards, letters, etc. to give to their "secret" kindness class.  During the four week focus, each class will deliver their "Random Acts of Kindness" gifts to their "secret" class.  Then during the week of December 12th, each class will reveal themselves to their "secret" kindness class.  Our staff is also participating, and each staff member has chosen another staff member to surprise each week with "Random Acts of Kindness" messages and gifts.

Our students are also focusing on several other different activities such as: creating "Happy Hearts" to place in our classroom windows; sincerely complimenting 5 people; making a wish for a child in another country; and writing thank you notes to special people in an effort to spread kindness.

It has been so heart warming to see the various "Random Acts of Kindness" gifts the classes have given each other.  It is also so rewarding to hear our students share their excitement about spreading kindness around the school and towards each other!  We encourage you to talk with your child about the activities they are doing at school to promote kindness.

We will also participate in the Great Kindness Challenge during the week of January 24th-28th.
