As discussed earlier this year, our School Site Council has four vacant positions. We currently have four people that have expressed interest in filling the open positions. School Site Council positions must be elected by the community to serve in these positions. This committee is comprised of teachers, parents, classified staff and administrators, who meet 4 to 5 times a year for approximately one hour.  The Council reviews the school plan annually, helps establish a budget, and assists in the evaluation of the school’s programs. Please look for the half sheet ballot coming home today that includes the four people who have expressed interest in serving on this council as well as an open spot to write in the name of an additional person if you would like to nominate someone. Please select four people from the ballot and return it to Blackford by this Friday 10/21. If you have any questions please direct them to the front office. Elected Council members will be notified and names will be posted in the office Monday 10/24.

On October 31st at 9:00 we will have our annual Halloween Parade on the upper and lower yard of our campus. As a reminder it is our policy, and will be strictly enforced, that students may not wear any kind of masks to school on Halloween. Students may dress up in their costumes for the parade and will need to have a change of clothes to put on following the parade. All toys that resemble weapons are not allowed even if they are part of your child's costume, please remove them before they come to school in the morning. As a reminder face paint/makeup covering is also not allowed for the parade. We will have some fun activities set up in the library for our students who would prefer to not participate in the Halloween parade as well.

District Reorganization Update

Administrators for Campbell Middle School provided a status report to the Board in relation to their work at the school since June.

During the summer, they oversaw:

  1. Facility clean up and minor campus improvements, including tree replacement, outside seating for students, and removal of lockers that were inadequate for campus needs.
  2. Hiring faculty, creating team-building opportunities for the school employees, re-initiating the Positive Behavior Intervention Supports (PBIS) system, and establishing the new Instructional Leadership Team (ILT).
  3. Reviewing and adjusting systems, such as creating a common lunch period, a singly daily bell schedule, and increasing instructional minutes.
  4. Building the Transformation Team—which will include students, staff, neighbors, administrators and other community stakeholders—to meet and develop a plan for the school’s transition from middle school to a grade TK-8 school.

Strategic Plan Update

Superintendent Eric Andrew reported that work on the five objectives aimed at achieving the district’s Strategic Goals is going well.

He noted that work on the goals has progressed well with many of the objectives met. He added that some of the deadlines needed to be extended to October and November, due to changes in administration staff and union leadership and to allow the Strategic Planning Committee to consider revising the “Schools’ of Choice” goal’s wording.

Slides from the presentation can be seen on request or online at www.campbellusd.org/pastmeetings.
