New solar structures will be built on several schools, as part of Campbell Union School District’s energy conservation program. To maximize efficiency and savings, the projects will require removing trees and replacing them with different types that will not interfere with solar collector function.
INFORMATIONAL MEETING
TUESDAY, JUNE 7, 2016 – 6:30-7:30 P.M.
Monroe Middle School, PLC Bldg., 1055 S. Monroe St., San Jose
“In the light of the moon…” Those six words begin one of the most loved children’s books ever, The Very Hungry Caterpillar. Do you still remember the first story you read to your child? If so, maybe you would be willing to share those reading skills with a few other children at Blackford! Project Cornerstone, the YMCA-led initiative to get parents in local school classrooms reading stories to kids, is looking for new parents to join next school year, 2016-17. Interested parents and volunteers can contact David Turner: david [at] ctkanglican.com or leave a message at 408-978-4675 x4513.

Blackford 5th graders worked with volunteers from Cisco last week to solve a societal challenge during the Social Innovation Camp offered through Junior Achievement of Northern California. The camps provide students with a social issue that they solve in small groups, then present their business plan to a panel of judges. The partnership is part of the district’s STEAM education initiative. This program reaches all fifth-grade classrooms, about 950 students, in the district, and includes visits to local businesses, such as Microsoft and Cisco.
Come out and join us on Friday, May 6, 2016 from 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm for the Blackford Cultural Festival. There will be live performances, food/beverages, and fun games for the whole family! Tickets will be sold for $1 each and all proceeds go to Blackford! We look forward to seeing everyone there!
Our cultural festival is right around the corner and we are so excited. We are still looking for volunteers to help set up and clean up. If you are available to help with this on Friday, May 6th please contact our Community Liaison Joanna Rascon at jrascon [at] campbellusd.org. We have a very tight timeline to set up and make this event special for our students and families so we sincerely appreciate any help we can get.
Our 5th grade promotion will be on Tuesday, June 7th at 9:00 a.m. in our cafeteria. We are excited to celebrate the great achievements of our fifth grade students as they prepare to move on to middle school. To make this happen we need to form a committee of parents who are dedicated to making this a great experience. This promotion day is 100% run by parents. We need you in order to make our students 5th grade promotion a success. In order to provide for all of our students we are hoping to gather a $25.00 donation from each family. Please consider making this donation to help our students have a very special send off. If you can’t provide $25.00, please consider a donation of the amount you are able to contribute. We appreciate your donation by May 6th. If you are interested in volunteering to help with this commitee, please contact Araceli in the front office at 408-978-4675. We look forward to a great event.
